Purchase, NY, October 6, 2023 – Quorum’s recent donation to The Council for Economic Education (CEE) paved the way for three teachers to attend the 62nd Annual Financial Literacy & Economic Education Conference, the nation’s premier K-12 educator Conference for teachers who want to integrate personal finance and economics into their classrooms. This year’s event took place in Fort Lauderdale, FL on September 22-23, 2023, where teachers learned and passed on valuable financial knowledge to their students, with sessions ranging from easy-to-understand monetary policy, economics through the music industry, teaching globalization through learning stations, and a case study on how second graders started a toy company.

“We’re honored to have had the opportunity to sponsor these dedicated teachers who are learning the latest in personal finance skills and passing it on to their students,” said Jeff Pachter, President and CEO of Quorum Federal Credit Union. “So many young people (and adults) can fall victim to scams, high-interest rate loans, and bad debt. Arming young minds with the tools to manage their money gives them a solid foundation to build a secure financial future and start achieving short- and long-term financial goals. Learning how to earn, spend, save and invest wisely also leads to greater resilience during unpredictable life events (and even predictable events like buying a house, or paying for college). Bravo to CEE for the important work they’re doing. We’re proud to support them for another year.”

“I really appreciate the wealth of information provided and the support from professionals in the field,” said Tanika Bennett of Felix Varela Sr. High in Miami, Florida, one of the teachers Quorum sponsored. “I am excited to get my students more engaged using the resources, especially the technology interactive ones.”

“Florida recently added a student requirement to pass a financial literacy class for graduation,” said Shawn Tausch of St. Lucie West Centennial High School in Port Saint Lucie, Florida, another scholarship winner. “So we are in the process of adopting the curriculum. The conference provided excellent resources, and most of them are free for student use.”

Also attending the conference was Shekia Wright of Silver Lakes Middle School in North Lauderdale, FL. “I have gained a substantial amount of knowledge that will positively impact student learning in my classroom,” she affirmed.

Over 400 people attended CEE’s conference, including 160 K-12 educators representing 36 states and Washington D.C.
